Wembley and Angus have been added to the AHDB Recommended List for winter oilseed rape, to join Avatar, Mentor and Cracker in the LS Plant Breeders Ltd (LSPB) portfolio of varieties for growers in 2016/17.
"Wembley is a restored hybrid winter oilseed rape that has been added to the AHDB East/West region Recommended List following its consistent performance in trials combined with good agronomic characteristics plus high gross output from its high oil content and treated seed yield," says Craig Padley, the company's oilseeds breeder.
"The results of RL trials back up our breeders evaluations with Wembley showing good stem stiffness and resistance to lodging. The variety also looks good in its field performance with its resistance to light leaf spot. Its overall agronomic package gives Wembley good autumn vigour, spring vigour and early flowering time.
"Wembley has been joined on the Recommended List by Angus, which brings a high resistance to phoma stem canker in a variety with stiff stems and good resistance to lodging.
"Hence, for the 2016/17 season, we have five varieties on the AHDB Recommended List for winter oilseed rape as Wembley and Angus join Avatar and Mentor on the East/West Region list alongside Mentor and Cracker on the North region List," adds Mr Padley.
