“Although LS Plant Breeding Ltd may be a new name to UK growers and the seed trade, we have grown from two companies with a long pedigree in plant breeding in oilseeds, pulses, cereals and forage crops both for Europe and the wider world

“Our market leading varieties such as Fuego spring bean and Emerson, Cullin, Marcant and Palmedor oilseed rape have been marketed previously through UK agents. We are now establishing a firm presence in the UK market in our own right with two combining peas plus a spring bean on the 2010 PGRO Pulse Recommended Lists, and three candidate varieties in the 2010 HGCA Winter Oilseed Rape RL trials.

“We believe our varieties already on the Recommended Lists - and our candidate varieties - are good news for the UK as they show the results of our significant investment in breeding new, improved material for the UK grower.”

SESAME LIVES UP TO TRIALS YIELD PROMISE DOWN ON THE FARM

Winter oilseed rape Sesame was the top-yielding conventional variety in last year’s HGCA trials and Sesame looks set to fulfil its trials promise with excellent yields down on the farm.

Nick Wilson farms near Boroughbridge, north Yorkshire and his seed crop of Sesame came in at 4.6t/ha (1.9t/acre), with 45.6% oil content.

“One clue to Sesame’s excellent performance is its Thousand Grain Weight,” suggests Paul Nickerson of Ebbage Seeds, who are working with breeders LSPB on the marketing of the variety. “A big seed means good vigour and gets the crop off to a good start.  And judging by our seed growers' results this season – as shown by Nick Wilson – Sesame is easy to manage during the season on the farm and fulfils the yield promise it shows in official trials.”
